Hand Unity Ceremony

Kaitlyn and Kevin’s wedding at Giorgio’s last August was such a beautiful expression of this couple’s love for each other and their love for their family. They demonstrated their bond of love by the Hand Unity Ceremony or in this case- the Celtic Hand Ceremony. A braided cord was wrapped around their hands following the exchange of vows, symbolizing the binding of their hearts and lives together. As the cord was crossed over their hands one way and then the other, a reflection on hands throughout life was read one verse at a time. It is a moving testament to the power of a couple’s love over the course of time. They honored Kaitlyn’s Grandmother with a special role in this unique wedding Unity Ceremony by having “Nanny” be the one to wrap their hands with the braid. The braided cord was a gift from her to the couple. And it was a Celtic tri-cord braid- all the more meaningful! This showed the ebb and flow of love not just between a couple but across the generations and became a high point of their wedding celebration!
